Step 1 – Design the basic folder
The first step is deciding what folder style, type, size and paper will best meet your needs.  There are many considerations when selecting the right folder for your office including:
  • The type of documents and materials that will be stored.
  • The size of the documents.
  • The volume of documents to be housed in each folder.
  • The need to house documents in sections or compartments.
  • The type of system will the folders be stored in or on.
  • How often the folders will be handled or accessed.
  • The security and confidentiality requirements of the contents.

  • Size – letter, legal or custom Size
  • Paper – manila, pressboard, kraft, or redwallet (depending on the durability requirements)
